Erissery
Erissery is a curry that is unique to Malayalis. This South Indian Food Recipe is a curry made with a lot of coconut. It has a pleasant aroma. Ingredients
- Chopped yam – 1½ cup
- Chopped pumpkin – 3 cups
- Grated chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- Chopped black pepper powder – 1 teaspoon
- Salt – 2-2½ teaspoons
- Grated coconut – 2 cups
- Water – 3 cups
- Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
- Cereal seeds – ½ teaspoon

- Mustard – 2 teaspoons

- Cooking oil – 1 tablespoon

Method
- Chopped yam with one cup of water, turmeric powder, black pepper powder, chili powder and salt and cook. When the yam is cooked, add the pumpkin pieces and cook until cooked.
- Grate a cup of coconut with cumin and red chilies. It should be just enough. You should see some coconut flakes. Add this grated coconut to the cooked yam-pumpkin mixture, stir, add two cups of water and set aside as soon as it boils.
- Put a cup of coconut in a pan, add mustard, curry leaves, chopped red chilies, add coconut oil and stir on low heat. When the coconut starts to turn red, you can hear the sound of the mustard cracking. When the sound stops, put this coconut in the rice cooker, stir and close it.

(For 8-10 people)
Ingredients
- Turmeric – ½ cup
- Meat (medium) – 2 pieces
- Powdered black pepper – 1 teaspoon
- Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
- Salt – 2-2 ½ teaspoons
- Water – 3-4 cups
- Grated coconut – 2 cups
- Jumra seeds – ½ teaspoon
- Vegetable oil – 1 tablespoon
- Grated chillies – 2 pieces
- Mustard – 2 teaspoons
- Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Method
- Cook the turmeric in two cups of water. When the lentils are cooked, add chopped nuts, salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, and black pepper powder and cook. Cover and set aside.
- Add one cup of coconut and cumin seeds and grind them. Just grate it a little. You don’t need to grate it finely. Add a cup of water to the grated coconut, stir it, add it to the chopped pieces, and bring to a boil. Remove it as soon as it boils.
- In a pan, fry a cup of coconut, mustard, chopped chilies, curry leaves, and coconut oil. When the coconut turns red, you will hear the sound of the mustard cracking. When the cracking sound stops, add this coconut to the curry that you have removed and mix it.
3. Jackfruit Erissery
(For 8-10 people)
Ingredients
- Jackfruit, peeled and chopped – 3 cups
- Water – 2 cups
- Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
- Crushed black pepper – 2 teaspoons
- Salt – to taste
- For the arapa
- Coconut – 1 cup
- Jumra seeds – ½ teaspoon
- For frying mustard
- Grated coconut – 1 cup
- Mustard – 2 teaspoons
- Chopped red chillies – 4 pieces
- Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
- Cooking oil – 2 tablespoons
Method
- Chop the jackfruit in a stone pan, add salt, water, black pepper powder and turmeric powder to taste and cook well.
- Grind the coconut and cumin for the arapa quite well. It is not necessary to grind it like butter.
- When the jackfruit is fried, break it well. If necessary, add water to make the rice and rice medium-soft, and bring to a boil.
- In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients for frying mustard and heat, stirring continuously. Once the coconut is slowly browned and the mustard has broken, add it to the rissery and stir to use.

- Water – 1 ½ cup
- For the rice
- Grated coconut – 1 cup
- Juminary seeds – ½ teaspoon
- Dried green chillies (green) – 1 tablespoon
- Salt – to taste
- For frying mustard
- Cooking oil – 1 tablespoon
- Chopped chillies – 3 pieces
- Mustard – 1 teaspoon
- Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Method
- Grind the coconut, washed rice and cumin seeds until smooth. Add salt and set aside.
- Heat a little coconut oil, add the moringa leaves to it, stir, and set aside.
- Add water to the grated coconut and boil in a stone pot. When it boils, add the chopped moringa leaves and stir until they start to sizzle.
